statement
I began painting professionally in 1993.
I paint in oil and watermedia. I sculpt in wax and stone. I am primarily interested in the human figure, alone and in relationship to other figures and surroundings.
The gesture is all important.
I am fortunate. I have found work that drives and satisfies me, that removes me from the everyday and puts me in a place where there is no clock, no day, no night. Sometimes the result of striving for the simplest means of expressing an idea or reaction, brings a sense of accomplishment. It is a process that will hopefully last a lifetime.
brief bio
I was born in Flint Michigan. I received a BA and did graduate work in Philosophy at Marquette University. I moved to Maine in 1980 with my husband and two children. I discovered art after owning and operating Pemaquid Floorcloths for 11 years. In 1993 I sold the business and decided to concentrate on painting and sculpture. I am primarily self-taught, but owe a great deal to mentors and artists Nancy Freeman, John Lorence and Court Bennett for their encouragement and support. I maintain a studio/gallery in Round Pond, Maine, also site of on-going life drawing groups and amateur string quartet ensembles, the cello being my avocation.
